What Are The 3 Most Important Tasks To Success

After you have bought all the courses, read all the material and began to build an online business you suddenly realize that there seems to be a lot more to it than you were promised in the sales letters. You realize that you are overwhelmed with the shear amount of knowledge, skills and time you must have to really make a success of this new venture. So what is one to do? Well, in my life I have always tried to make the more complex things simpler. I do everything I can to make my life and my business as simple as possible.
Generally, with just about any business venture, most things can be boiled down to just a few “core” components. By doing this you can make most any task manageable. The reason that you want to make things manageable is so that you feel like you accomplish something each and every day. When this happens you become productive and when productivity rises so do the profits.
How many times have I heard the question, “If you had to pick 2 or 3 things to concentrate on, what would they be? I’ve heard things like your domain and blog are the most important, some people say that creating information products should be at the top of the list, and others say that I should create lists. So what are the most important things to be working on?”
When you hear this or if you are asking this yourself you are just trying to find a way to simplify your business. This is a fair question and certainly shows that you understand that by simplifying things you will actually get more done.
So, when it comes to building an internet business, specifically an information marketing business, there are three core components you must concentrate on to achieve success.
- Make An Offer They Can’t Refuse
There is no way to make money online unless you have an OFFER. It’s that simple. Unless you have some way to generate income, you can’t and won’t get paid. That’s it, that’s all there is to it, that is the end of the discussion. Every business created has a revenue-generating offer. Now, this can be your own offer (small reports, ebooks, membership sites, coaching/consulting, advertising, etc.) or something you promote as an affiliate and earn revenue for referred sales. - List Marketing
I am sure you have heard the term “The money is in the list.” Chances are you have heard this many, many times, and you have either taken heed or you have ignored it. I am going to emphatically telly you that you MUST create a list or lists if you are in multiple niches. Building and profiting from opt-in lists should be a major priority on your schedule. You need to devote yourself to attracting new subscribers and then getting all of your subscribers to spend money with you … by purchasing your OFFERS (see above). - Traffic
The third and final thing you need to concentrate on is “traffic”. This includes both traffic GENERATION (getting visitors to a site) and traffic CONVERSION (getting that traffic to buy). This includes
things like: starting an affiliate program, buying PPC ads, participating in joint ventures, utilizing viral marketing tools, raising your visitor value, tweaking your sales pages, building backlinks, etc.
The three categories you see listed above are just that, categories. They are not specific steps to success. Withing each category you have a variety of options to choose from in which to direct your attention. It would be foolish for me to tell you “grow your affiliate program” as your number # traffic activity since I don’t know if you even have your own product to sell. That’s why I don’t recommend specific activities, but rather I urge you to create key categories of business-building within your own business model.
If you will simply take and accomplish 2-3 activities to work on each week within each category I can promise you that you will see results in a short amount of time.
I usually work on my offers early in the week. I do however keep a note book of ideas that I write in all during the week so I don’t forget anything that may have to do with offer development. The middle of the week I build relationships and promote to my opt-in lists. Last but not least I concentrate on traffic generation methods at the end of the week. If you will just spend a couple hours each of these days working on these core parts of your business, sales will come.
To Summarize:
- Create or find an offer to promote.
- Create or build relationships with your list to promote the offer.
- Drive traffic to your opt-in pages to build your lists.
I am sure you have all heard of the KISS method – “Keep It Simple Stupid.” I prefer to use the same method with a different acronym, “Keep It Simple, Successful.”
Good luck in all your future endeavors. Simplify the processes and you can just about guarantee success in any business.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Simplicity seems so elusive; especially in internet marketing. So often I’ve read phrases like: “You can achieve internet marketing success by studying my 22 CD course and 45 bonus ebooks!”
In an unguarded moment, this kind of extra “value” can easily plunge me into analysis paralysis.
Here’s a tactic to add to your strategic approach to success: Identify the next action step for each task on your to do list. It’s crucial that the action step for each task is concrete–doable, well-defined and with a definite end point.
In my experience, this “next action step” approach can simplify the most complex business life and give me more time to spend with family and friends.
Very inspiring reading. I also like the Malcolm Gladwell 10.000 hour rule: In order to master any discipline, including online ventures, you will have to spend around 10.000 hours in your field. There seems to be something magic about that number in any area that it is investigated. Of course, you should prioritize this time and not waste it! Thanks for sharing!
You have some very informative points. One thing that I was dead against was list marketing, I did not understand the entire concept when it was briefly introduced to me over two years ago. Today it is a bit different, after doing more research, concentrating on one marketing idea at a time, I have implemented a list building component with great success. A list is power and knowledge, I just wish I had not been so stuborn when I first started out. Lesson learned I guess.
Very well written article. And you have summarized it very well too. I love the KISS method. You may also like to read my article on qualities required to be a successful entrepreneurs. Feedback would be appreciated.

Great article! I agree that one of the most important thing is indeed to keep things simple – and foremost – to not lose sight of the objective. Yes, what should be obvious but still often goes confused and forgotten in the process is to keep focusing on the business objective: what is the product/solution and what is the target audience!? These are the 2 most important aspects any business owner should keep his sight on as this should shape any resulting plan – this will affect what you want/need to communicate and how – and eventually where. Try to keep this as visual as possible – a simple piece of paper will do: write down your mission statement -and keep it clearly visible in your office, so you can never lose sight of it…
Very impressive. I like the way you reverse the KISS. To gain success we must learn it step by step, don’t jump to conclusion and don’t be afraid to take the risk. This risk would be a challenge, as we all know it has been very tough to compete on the world wide web. With your 3 steps surely you’ll gain the success you want.
I remember vividly that feeling of being overwhelmed. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to prepare a to-do list at the end of each day, things that I want to accomplish the next day. As long as I keep it reasonable, I find that it keeps me focused and I accomplish far more in the same amount of time. It also helps to close my email program while I’m working, far less distractions!

I always thought that simplicity is, indeed, the key in order to truly succeed.
When it comes to Internet businesses, it’s really hard these days to find that “gold mine” and make it a success. It’s not enough to only have an idea, you have to realize it and it takes a lot of work.
As you say, traffic is really important. If you manage you make a great website that has a following and a nice community, the money should come fairly easy. And once that happens, all that hard work pays off.
Thanks for the great article!
