Success Starts In Your Mind
Starting and building a business is one of the most exhilarating and challenging experiences you can have in life. You start your day with vim and vigor and go to bed overwhelmed, exhausted and sometimes frustrated. The key to your success is to maintain a positive attitude.
If you are anything like me you are probably saying “Easier said than done.” Well, I’m going to help you by giving you 5 keys that will to create and sustain a positive attitude so you can attain the success you desire.
1. Surround Yourself With Successful And Positive People.
You would be amazed at the power and influence that people have over you. Their moods and attitudes can easily spread to you and soon you will find yourself acting and thinking like them in either a positive or negative way. So if you want to be impacted on a positive level you need positive people, if you want success, hang with successful people. It really is that simple. When you have people around you who inspire you, believe in you and want you to succeed, your doubts are quickly swept away.
2. Create An Affirmation Strategy.
Affirmations have been shown to get people through tough times and to actually help them to believe what they’re saying.
For example, if you were to tell yourself each day (several times a day) “I will be successful in business because I help other people to be successful” (one of my own affirmations) then your mind becomes trained to help others and I guarantee that by helping others you will become successful.
There are many business professionals who use a similar affirmation strategy to attain and sustain their success. One way to approach an affirmation strategy is to, write a quick list of your doubts, insecurities and complaints. By knowing the negatives you can create positive affirmations.
For example, if you wrote that people don’t listen to you then you might have an affirmation that says, “People value what I say because I truly care about them.” Repeat your affirmations several times a day and feel the power of positive thinking.
I have to tell you that I always thought it was kind of a hokey discipline but I must admit, it works.
3. Control Negative Thoughts.
There is no one alive that doesn’t occasionally have negative thoughts from time to time. The problem with negative thoughts and emotions is that they can prevent us from achieving all we desire. Controlling your negative thoughts takes tiem, practice and persistence. When you find yourself thinking negative thoughts or having negative emotions, find a trigger to turn them around. The affirmations mentioned above are a great way to turn the negative into the positive. You can also find quick pick me ups like a favorite song, a walk outside in the fresh air, or some exercise to help improve your mood.
4. Set Goals And Move Forward.
Setting goals is fairly easy, moving forward with confidence is where many of us struggle. However, if you had enough faith in yourself to start the business and you are careful to apply yourself then chances are you can succeed. Simply set your goals, apply the time line you want to achieve them in and move forward.
5. Be Grateful.
Gratitude is perhaps the single most powerful and positive tool for success and yet it is one of the last emotions we display (if we display it at all). If you consider your day carefully you will find there are many things you can be grateful for. When you are consciously grateful for all of the things and people in your life the challenges you face seem insignificant in comparison and the details of your business and life are easier to deal with.
If you really want to see ALL the things you have to be thankful for then consider keeping a gratitude journal. Each day (preferably as soon as you think of it) make entries. Soon you will find that things are not as bad as they might seem. Not only that but by seeing these things in writing you can create in yourself an attitude of gratitude. This will help you maintain a positive perspective and to face challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles.
Success is within the reach of anyone. All you need is the right attitude you can accomplish anything you set your sights on. Take the 5 strategies that I outlined above and put them into practice and watch your business and your life improve daily.

These are great tips, and especially helpful at this time of year as it already seems that I’ve wasted another 6 months. I especially like your last point, having gratitude for what you’ve achieved is often forgotten as people continually consider what they NEED to accomplish next instead of appreciating what they’ve done.
