The Most Powerful Marketing Tool You Don’t Use

RSS - Real Simple SyndicationKeeping in touch with your subscribers is essential for anyone who wants to make money online. When we think of staying in touch and keeping a message in front of our prospects or customers we usually think of an autoresponder. Just load up the messages and let it go. Set it and forget it. While autoresponders are certainly powerful tools and should be used in our marketing efforts, there is another tool that you are probably not using to your advantage.

Another way to keep in contact with our lists is RSS which stands for real simple syndication. This is one of the most powerful marketing tools available to information marketers today. If you are not using RSS in your marketing efforts you are missing a key element in driving traffic and creating back links to your site.

Here are 8 reasons you will want to use RSS in your marketing mix:

  1. Readers can opt-in to your feeds.
Just like autoresponders, RSS readers can opt-in or opt-out to your feed any time they want. The difference is that instead of creating messages and loading them into your autoresponder your messages are delivered every time you post to your site, as long as that is included in your RSS feed.
  2. Hands Off Marketing
Since RSS is setup to automatically deliver your messages you only need to update the content on your site. Since this is something you are going to do anyway, in many ways it is much easier than the autoresponder. Not only that but RSS is free to use and it doesn’t require as much effort as building a list does.
  3. Syndicated Content
This is where the true power of RSS comes through.  Anyone who subscribes to your RSS feed can get your content as soon as it is published. This means your own subscribers and other websites that use your content for their readers. Guess what happens when your content is shown on another site? Free one way backlinks!! I am sure you know how important those are for your rankings.
  4. Promotions
If you have a special promotion, sale or any other important event coming up you can use your RSS feed just like an autoresponder. With an autoresponder you would send out a broadcast, with your RSS feed you simply create the post and viola, it is sent to everyone on your list immediately. This is a fairly easy way to earn money with your RSS feed.
  5. No More Spam Filters
Every time an email is sent it goes through e-mail filters. With RSS feeds you no longer have to worry about those filters because you are now syndicating your articles. All of your messages are delivered 100%, every time, to your subscribers.
  6. No Spam Complaints
If a person wants to receive the information you are providing via your RSS feed then they must do it with their RSS reader.  This means that they have to abide by the Privacy Policy that you are allowed to send them your syndication anytime without being called spamming.
  7. Many Platforms Can Be Reached
RSS can be read in many different media platforms which makes it very versatile. RSS can be read via browsers on Mac’s or PC’s and then there is software that can be used to read it as well.
  8. Free Traffic
Traffic from your RSS feed is perhaps the best free traffic available. Since people have to subscribe to your feed the traffic is targeted. The people who get your message want to hear what you have to say. This aspect alone can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars in advertising each year.

Content management systems and most blogging platforms today include an RSS feed as a standard feature. However to get the power of RSS to work for you, you will need to submit your feed to RSS aggregators. These are sites that collect feeds from all over the internet and provide them to anyone who wants them. This can be a very tedious task as there are hundreds of aggregators available.

Since our goal as information marketers is to automate as much as possible it is only smart to look into programs or services that will help us automatically submit our feeds to these RSS aggregators. Here, at the Home Based Business Adviser site, we use a software package called RSS Power Pro. Once we set it all up, all we had to do was create content and then after each article is posted it is automatically sent to the RSS aggregators we have specified. This saves us loads of time and has provided us with many back links that we would not have had otherwise. As a matter of fact, we are in the process of doing a full review of this software because we like it so much and it works so well.

Hopefully you have learned a little bit about the power of real simple syndication (RSS). There is much more to learn and we will cover that at a later time but in the meantime did you learn anything new from this article? Do you currently use RSS as a traffic generator? Are you thinking about it since reading this article? Please leave comments below.
