Why You Should Be An Information Marketer

Information Marketing - The Best Online Business Available

If you have ever wanted to start an online business then there is not a better business model than that of information marketing. When people consider information marketing they usually think about ebooks, but an informational product can be many things, ie. ebooks, videos, software, audio, ezines, newsletters, white papers or anything else that can transfer information from you to your customer.

Why do I consider information marketing the perfect business model?

  1. Products are generally easy to create or purchase
  2. You can take your product to market quickly
  3. There is no inventory or storage expense
  4. No shipping or handling is required
  5. You are able to automate the sales and delivery process
  6. There are no manufacturing costs
  7. You don’t even have to do the work yourself

If you have a computer and a word processor you are well on your way to creating your first informational product. You might be thinking that you don’t know how to create an info product or that you aren’t good at writing. First off, these are skills you can acquire and second it doesn’t really matter because you don’t have to create it yourself if you don’t want to.

Many products you see online today were not necessarily written by the person who is selling them. One of the methods used to create information to sell is called ghost writing. Ghost writing is common in the online and offline world. All it means is that you either partner with or pay someone to write the information for you.

Another method of creating information products is to purchase what is known as PLR (Private Label Rights) material. This is material that has been written by somebody and can sold to anybody. Private Label Rights means that you have the right to put your name on the product as if you wrote it yourself. This allows you to create products quickly and easily. There is of course good ways and bad ways to use PLR material but that will come in another post.

Creating your own information products is the best and most profitable way to succeed. However, if you decide that creating products is not your cup of tea you can always resell someone else’s products. This is what is known as Affiliate Marketing. You promote the product, you make the sale, the company delivers the product, and you earn a commission. There are many people who live very comfortably and some even live extravagantly from income they make by reselling someone else’s products. There are thousands of companies that sell information products and most have affiliate programs that you can sign on with.

Should you decide you would like to take the plunge and begin a new business of information marketing here are a few tips:

  1. Target a specific niche – This means that you don’t create a product and try to sell it to everyone. You want to create products that appeal to a certain segment of the population. Let’s say you like animals. You don’t want to create a general animal product because not all people like all animals. You want to target a specific segment of the animal lovers population. So, if you were to create a product specifically for Reptile Care, you have now narrowed down your buyers to a specific niche and you will have much more success. The reason is because anyone who wants to own a reptile will need to know how to take care of them.
  2. Solve a problem – It doesn’t matter what the problem is, you just need to provide the solution. The more painful the problem is to people the more they will be willing to pay to know the solution.
  3. Stay away from fads – You want to create or sell products that will stand the test of time.  These are called “evergreen” products. When you create a product you want it to sell for years to come. You do not want to have to constantly update it or worse yet take it off the market because it is no longer relevant. As you become more skilled and know what you are doing there is definitely money to be made on trends and fads but in general the “evergreen” products are what you want to concentrate on.
  4. Give a little to get a lot – Don’t be afraid to give some of your information away. By allowing your prospective buyers to sample a piece of your product you are allowing them to see the quality and judge for themselves whether it is something they want to spend their money on.
  5. Learn how to monetize – There are MANY places and many ways you can increase your bottom line by making simple additions or tweaks to your marketing material and I’m not talking about your sales letter. I am talking about your download pages, your emails, your squeeze pages, affiliates and a host of other ways to create additional income.
  6. Focus, focus, focus – It seems that the majority of people today have a hard time focusing on any one task for a great amount of time. This has been the downfall of many a would be information marketer. You must focus on the task at hand and finish it. There is always going to be “the next big thing” coming to your inbox. Learn to ignore them until you finish what you started.

My final and best piece of advice to anyone who wants to be a successful internet or information marketer is this:

Learn one proven method at a time and master that method before moving on to something else.

During your visit to this blog, you may notice that I occasionally promote, endorse, or suggest products and/or services for sale. In some cases, I will be compensated if you decide to purchase that product based on my recommendation. In some cases, I will receive the product for free for review purposes. Always use due-diligence before making any purchases and never purchase anything that you cannot afford. Most people don’t do anything with the products they buy, so most of the time, their typical results are zero.
