Online Business is Easy, Right?
Many people I come across think that an online business is easier to start and run than your typical brick and mortar offline business. While it’s true that starting an online or internet business is generally inexpensive to start (if you are able to do much of the work yourself) I am not convinced, nor should you be that it is easy to run and money will somehow magically flow into your bank account.
Setting up a business is very similar in theory whether your business of online or offline. Many people fall into the trap of thinking that by setting up a website to sell something, a service or a product, that the whole world will see it and of course they will want to buy it too. Unfortunately this kind of thinking leads many people into another trap, and they fall victim to online opportunities which are promoted as “Easy Money”. Trust me, if it was easy money they would be making it without you.
Let’s compare the differences (or similarities) of starting an internet business vs. an offline business.
Startup Costs:
- Offline: In the beginning you want to spend as little as possible so you begin a business from your basement or garage.
- Online: You get your own domain name or website online. Now you have a garage in which to begin your business.
Products/Services:
- Offline: Direct marketing is a common business model. You sell a product or service as well as offering an opportunity for one to make an income generating business.
- Online: You need a product or service to sell online too. You sell directly just like an offline business. The difference is sometimes in delivery methods and traffic generation (getting people to your website).
Making Money:
- Offline: How does anyone know about your business? Where do you begin to make money? It begins with your marketing and/or your advertising. If no one knows you exist you can’t sell anything.
- Online: Search engines WILL find your website so in that respect you can be found easier than if you were a home based business running out of your garage. However, just because you are listed does not guarantee that anyone will actually find your website. In an online business you too, must have a marketing and/or advertising plan to bring people to your website to purchase your product or service.
As you can see the differences are minimal in starting an online business vs. an offline business. The principles are the same.
This blog focuses on the Internet Business Model and we believe that it is a better opportunity and has greater potential than it’s offline business counterpart. As your offline business begins to grow, you’ll find the need to bring on other resources to assist with the additional business. You may also outgrow your space or need space with better accessibility for more people. While in comparison, an online business will also require more resources as it grows. The BIG difference is that the needs of the online business are “digital” or “electronic” versus the “physical” needs of an offline business. In general these needs are MUCH MORE inexpensive than those required of the offline business.
Regardless of which business model you subscribe to it will take some time to succeed. There is no such thing as a “magic bullet” if anyone tells you differently, then be careful! Don’t be too quick to pull out your wallet.
An internet business can provide you with a steady, work at home income if you work at it and follow the proven steps we provide in our reports and blog. Many people earn a very good living online and can work from where ever they want to because their business is virtual. As long as you have an internet connection your business goes where you go. Your online business is truly global because anyone, anywhere can access your business website.
So to review a little. Online business and offline business both require the same kind of startup, you need a place to work from whether it is your garage or your website. They both need a product or service to sell. Without a marketing and/or advertising plan neither business model can succeed and last but not least no business can flourish without a dedicated leader to guide and direct the business.
